Review of 'Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
The book has an ambitious scope, from the 1940s to 2010s. Each chapter covers 5-10 years of a sub-genre (glam, rockabilly, shoe-gaze, etc) and links the progression of pop music over time, the trends and influences. Single bands might get part of a chapter, a paragraph, or many might just be a list in a footnote. The overall framing being on music that had a chart presence (i.e. popular in some measure). Encyclopaedic but quite readable, leaving you with a large list of songs to look up and listen to. The book was probably an impossible undertaking but still mostly works.
