pithypants reviewed All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner

On the heels of reading Mrs. Everything, I thought I'd try another Jennifer Weiner novel. I think I'll pause for a bit before picking up another. On the plus side: She's definitely good at writing dialogue. And this is an interesting premise, showing how ordinary people can get addicted to prescription drugs. My challenge was that it's actually not an interesting story. And maybe that says more about addiction than it does her writing. Following a character as she becomes an addict means investing in someone who is increasingly one-dimensional. I'd imagine Weiner did her research, but it's also hard to imagine someone taking the quantities of pills that this woman took and still seeming functional.
