I hope this will become a series

. . . because otherwise there are too many loose ends. The protagonist is a likeable character, attempting to forge a path for herself in what has previously been a man’s profession. She’s clever and brave, and I hope to see more of her.

[SPOLER ALERT] I enjoyed this book a lot - and appreciated the historical aspects of the mystery. However there is a scene in the book - a rape - that is totally gratuitous and I believe unneccesary to the plot or to moving the story forward. The author could have had the character mugged or some other action that shakes her sense of security and privilege but the choice written was really not needed in my opinion - in fact I found it offensive because I kept expecting it to reveal some other aspect of the story and it never did.
