1/2 way through
This is just too contemporary romance for me with the love triangle. The woman is a bit immature and the situations she doesn't argue correctly, and argues stupidly, is just too much. The over all story is very good but the way she reacts is... childish. I like her biting the guy but the rest. Her arguing with her father about leaving at that point? Not taking up for Jace when Mark attacks. Getting drunk and having sex (that is just total teenage). I'm disappointed in the main character, she starts smart and turns stupid. 1/2 book to go back to smart but I think it is too late.
Finished

Never got to like Faythe, she is callous and vain, and irritating as hell. After saving herself from captivity by kicking ass and killing one of her captors, she starts crying because of how bad her face looks, worrying how she looks to the others. She constantly puts herself in TSTL situations.
The story was pretty good and the world pretty well developed. This kept me to the story but with Faythe as the main protagonist, I just never like the overall effect. The ending conflict was drawn out and took away from the overall story also, it was just once too much that Faythe was attacked for me and couldn't hold her own. She was constantly being snuck up on and whining that she needed to pay attention to herself. Once or twice, OK but three or more times and I just think she is unaware of her surroundings and needs to plan for it. Instead she thinks she should notice, hmm. So the last scene Miguel get a hold of Faythe and has her by the neck, we hear over and over during the long drawn out talk that he tighten he grip cutting off airflow. One problem of this was it was repeated over and over, I would say more than 6 times as a threat, the scene was just too drawn out. The next, if he is squeezing so hard, he is cutting off blood flow and she would lose consciousness and become dizzy. The whole idea of her running to the rescue and getting caught again was just too much in the first place.
Just didn't click for me mainly because I disliked the heroine throughout for too many reasons. The only thing I did like was that she was protective of Abby. I thought maybe I could start liking her, but no then there was calm negotiation after killing a man, then freaking out over the state of her face even thought it would heal completely. And then the TSTL moment at the end and being once again in the clutches of Miguel. it just never happened for me.
