This was a book I wanted to like more than I did. Getting to see the Winchesters in New York City was fun. Sam bitching about the only open spaces being blocked off by fire hydrants while trying to find parking in the Bronx, just like I do in Brooklyn, was very familiar, and totally understandable. Another issue with the story is that the mysteries that they end up dealing with fall flat. The main one turns out to not actually be supernatural, while the one that is is left sloppily unfinished. While I get that one of the benefits of media tie in books is that they can flex and even break out of the mold that the shows they’re based on have set up, maybe the first book isn’t the place to do that?
That said, I’m still looking forward to the next book.
