Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets of any kind. She’s reliable, cool under pressure, and well trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire, it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.

Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Lima. Interesting protagonist - Gabriela Rose, who investigates insurance fraud and recovers missing items. In this first book in the series, Gabriela gets involved in recovering a legendary amulet, not for a client, but on her own behalf so she can save the little South Carolina town where her parents and grandmother live. The town was ravaged by a hurricane, and nobody has money to rebuild.

Her quest takes her to Peru, California, gets her involved with drug lords and a psychotic leader of a snake worshipping cult.

This is the first of Evanovich’s books I’ve read that’s not a Stephanie Plum. I like Gabriela, and her ex-husband Rafer, but the writing style is different. Sentences are short and choppy, which gives everything a feeling of urgency but also gets a bit monotonous after a while.

I plan to read more of Gabriela’s adventures.
