I thought it wouldn't work, but I didn't know it wouldn't work, so I didn't say anything.

I picked Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? as I needed a light, not overly complicated read that I could pick up for small bits of time while on vacation. This book didn't help. I wanted to read more. I would get through one chapter and immediately want to read the next.

Alyssa Mastromonaco has a very casual, personable and easy writing style that I felt like I was hearing someone casually talk about their personal story. The story didn't unfold in a linear progression, the jumps between time and location was perfectly fitting for someone talking about their career.

Better question...WHO THOUGHT WRITING THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?

I'm a huge fan of anything about the Obama administration but this was painful to read. Instead of info about working in the White House we got stories of her no having tampons (really, any grown woman can figure out to carry tampons when she might need one), puking, not sleeping, and having diarrhea. Could barely finish it.

Loved this look behind the scenes of the Obama Administration by the youngest person (and first woman) to ever be a Deputy Chief of Staff in the White House. This is written as an advice and guidance book for women between 18-25 who might be interested in politics, but I found it fun, informative and satisfying.

I found this book incredibly charming. It's full of great advice for young women who aren't sure what to do with their lives, or find themselves in situations of professional responsibility in which they feel over their heads. Her humility and sense of humor make this an entertaining page-turner that made me long for the days of an empathetic, human president that called the author to express condolences when her cat died. So many crazy stories! Highly recommended for everyone.

This isn't a run of the mill political memoir.   This is the story of what can and will go wrong.  It is the story of friendships forged in stress and sleep deprivation.  It is finding out how to stand up for yourself and your ideas when you are young and female in a job that has always been dominated by older men.I loved a story that she discussed early in the book.  She was in charge of scheduling Barack Obama's time.  During the 2008 campaign there was bad weather forecasted.  She decided to have him go ahead with a live outdoor event in spite of the weather.  It ended up being worse than expected and he was getting hit in the face with sleet through the whole speech.

We watched (in horror) as the event drew to a close, and Obama reached his hand to Reggie.  As we were …
