An interesting biography with emphasis on Dickens' complex personality and on the familial and social background to his various attitudes. The one thing I missed was an attempt at an insight into his creative genius. Dickens of this biography would not be described differently if he was a successful but mediocre writer. But then, perhaps the difference is impossible to describe.
