Stunning stuff, I was on the edge of my seat reading the last 50 pages of this. Golding does such a good job getting inside the heads of these young boys, the way he describes how their ideas of civilisation fall apart as Jack and Ralph fight for control of the island is pure brilliance. The book does move along at a steady pace until suddenly as we near the end everything just goes out of control.
I found this to be an absorbing read and wish that "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" was structured to be just like this.
It is a real shame I never got the chance to read this at school, it would have been so much better than the constant Shakespeare I had to put up with.
