Scott reviewed Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford
Review of 'Shop Class as Soulcraft' on 'Goodreads'
2 stars
I inherited a syllabus with this book on it. I removed it without reading it in favor of other works. Once I had a moment, I figured I should read what it was I ended up not teaching. I made the right decision.
There is nothing about shop class after the first chapter and nothing about soul craft in the entire book. It largely amounts to a haphazard assemblage of overly general critiques of "knowledge work" contrasted with anecdotes in which the author demonstrates he is capable of repairing motorcycles. Not a particularly insightful or worthwhile read. Also super gendered.
