I have not been back to the mountains since my youth, but this tale reflects a timeless quality of living in the shadows of those giants.

Setting it in the 1930s provides more in common than different about making your way and your life in that unforgiving territory.

A delightful reminiscence for some of us, but a loving introduction for others, Doig's voice is clear as a bell.

I liked it. It was fine. It was a tad boring but gave you a glimpse of what life was like in Montana after the depression and right before WWII. Read it if you like that kind of thing, otherwise you won't miss anything if you don't.
