Set in the Georgian period, about 20 years before the Regency, "These Old Shades" features two of Heyer's most memorable characters: Justin Alastair, the Duke of Avon, and Leonie, whom he rescues from a life of ignominy and comes to love and marry.

Review of 'These Old Shades' on 'Goodreads'

This is apparently a very divisive one; I was skeptical in the beginning, but was drawn in by the end.

Has Heyer's semi-regular classism and racism problems, and definitely not for anyone who is squicked by power/age differentials. I thought it did well enough on that regard, particularly for the time period, but probably wouldn't work for everyone.
