This is religious (christian pushing). Maybe OK for religious practicing Christians that like it pushed in their books.
First religious statement comes when she "prays" for her friend to move back to the neighborhood. Which surprise, she does.
Next comes when they "go to church together". Then as her sister is mean to her, "they read scripture on Sundays" and compare Shannon, the main character to Joseph, from scripture.

"So what was Joseph like?
"He was Righteous. He Obeyed his parents and God."
"And how about his brothers?"
"They were mean to him."
"So in our family, Shannon would be Joseph."
I feel betrayed as nowhere does it say that it is Christian based or inspirational. It is sprinkled throughout the book. Luckily got it from the library.

So finished and this is just not for me. This is a memoir of a sort, how this author sees her childhood and friendship between her friends and family. I thought maybe for my daughter but 2 things, it is for kids 5th grade and under as it goes to graduating 5th grade, so maybe 10 and under. And 2. it has strong christian religious undertones. Jesus is her friend when she is alone, prayer for support, etc... and above. I just don't want the beliefs of others in my book. If I want that I'll pick up inspirational material.
Overall the book is just OK. It is about a little girl going through Elementary school and loosing and gaining friends. It didn't really have a message of how she did this other than being herself, which made her lose and gain friends. I didn't see any greater meaning which being a memoir, it might just be that is life. Still, not sure why it get great reviews.
