Of all the books I've read by Jeff Noon, this was my least favourite. The usual tropes are present and the story is engaging but the concept didn't grab me at all. Fiction metaphors are forced in everywhere but they don't fit. The concepts didn't hang together. The writing was dry and colourless except for a few moments when he does make it work.
If you're considering this, try Needle in the Groove instead.
