Review of 'Fables' on 'Goodreads'

Instead of feeling like an inevitable conclusion, the set up for the finale feels completely arbitrary. Characters are getting killed off for no obvious reason, motivations are retconned and what made the series initially interesting feels lost in the mix. The Sprat arc turned out to be useful only to provide a plot device, which makes the whole thing even more objectionable.
I used to consider this series a better counterpoint to the likes of Once Upon A Time, but now its hard to see much of a difference. I'll probably tell folk to give up when the empire falls, with the exception of Cubs in Toyland.
Annoyingly, the art remains first class and there are some wonderful spreads in here. Shame the writing doesn't stand up to it.

Review of 'Fables Vol 21' on 'Goodreads'

This franchise is seriously running out of steam, but it showed some life here in this penultimate chapter. It's setting up for a final battle between Snow White and Rose Red, but this volume also takes the time to tell the "final stories" of other characters who presumably won't take part in that battle: Flycatcher, Jack, Babe the Blue Ox, etc. I wish this had ended with issue 75, but this volume has made me excited again to see issue 150.
