Review of 'Emperor Mollusk versus The Sinister Brain' on 'Goodreads'

Bit too predictable. Reminded me a lot of Master of Formalities

Emperor Mollusk.
Intergalactic Menace. Destroyer of Worlds. Conqueror of Other Worlds. Mad Genius. Ex-Warlord of Earth.
Not bad for a guy without a spine.
But what's a villain to do after he's done . . . everything. With no new ambitions, he's happy to pitch in and solve the energy crisis or repel alien invaders should the need arise, but if he had his way, he'd prefer to be left alone to explore the boundaries of dangerous science. Just as a hobby, of course.
Retirement isn't easy though. If the boredom doesn't get him, there's always the Venusians. Or the Saturnites. Or the Mercurials. Or . . . well, you get the idea. If that wasn't bad enough, there's also the assassins of a legendary death cult and an up-and-coming megalomaniac (as brilliant as he is bodiless) who have marked Emperor for their own nefarious purposes. But Mollusk isn't about …

But Mollusk isn't about to let the Earth slip out of his own tentacles and into the less capable clutches of another. So it's time to dust off the old death ray and come out of retirement. Except this time, he's not out to rule the world. He's out to save it from the peril of THE SINISTER BRAIN!

2.5 Narcissus are us.
This was about twice as much fun as it should have been.
Wait, I said that wrong. This was fun, but about twice as long as it should have been.
Okay.
BORED NOW!
I made it about one and a half hours into this audiobook. One and a half hours which was 95% same two characters arguing and 5% action. I'm sure all that arguing is supposed to be 'witty banter' but it's neither witty nor banter-y. It nothing more than one person (Zala) bickering and the other person (Mollusk) ignoring it in an arrogant way.
This may be a really short book, actually, but my life is just too short for this.
I don't know why I keep putting off reading A. Lee Martinez, I grabbed this one after Narrator Scott Aiello said it was his first and a favorite and described the process he went through to use the British accent for the part.
Scotts performance was great.
Martinez Book was fantasic,
OK 5 stars is a bit much but this is the best [a:A. Lee Martinez|63669|A. Lee Martinez|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-M-50x66.jpg] book I've read so far.
I'm giving it 4.5 stars.
Think of the alien from Monsters vs Aliens.
A slightly more competent (and well more grown up) version of him is the main character.
Martinez makes the evil genius alien into his main character and he balances him with a Star Trek security chief type companion.
This was a very good laugh during a stressful week.
