Quite entertaining. Interesting setting in pre-WW2 Japan. Thoughtful explanation of the culture. it got me to try writing haiku.

Loved this, unfortunatly was on vacation during much of the read and could not reference earlier books in the series to get the timeline right in my head. Perhaps a summer project....
Absolutely delightful! It had been years since I had read any of this series, & I had forgotten how good it is.

At last, details of the adventures in Japan! But this is a mixed 4-start review. On the one hand, Dreaming Spies was an extremely well researched, fun, and carefully plotted travel adventure. On the other hand, the adventure could have starred almost any two investigators. That is, while the places (Oxford, Mojiro-joku, and Tokyo) were lovingly detailed, there was very little of the deduction, risk, or longing, that characterizes the best Holmes and Russell tales. In that way, I would place this installment with Justice Hall, as a story that would have been inherently interesting even without the franchise leads.
