Wow. I am so glad I went into this with almost no knowledge of what happened. Sottile's narrative is brilliant and cutting, and does a wonderful job of bringing context to what seems just an utterly insane scenario. Like all the best True Crime stories, this book sets the stage and shows you HOW these terrible things came to happen. It also makes a strong case for why, with a call for institutional changes to help prevent these types of cases in the future.
It seems like it would be very easy to look at the facts and context of this tragic story and condemn the entire LDS faith, but Sottile does a wonderful job of holding the church accountable while also treating its members with care.
