pithypants reviewed Open Book by Jessica Simpson

I can't name a single song Jessica Simpson sings, so I'm definitely not her ideal reader. In fact, I can't remember why/how this book even got on my radar – I think someone may have said it was interesting, so when it showed up as available through my library right before a long roadtrip, I grabbed it.
Having listened to it, I now have a bit more appreciation for Simpson, how she emerged as a popstar, and her struggles (namely with alcohol) along the way. That said, she didn't do herself any favors by being the voice of the audiobook: 1) I can't handle vocal fry and 2) in any emotional part it sounded like she was trying to sound choked up, which was awkward. Also? God is definitely her co-pilot, so expect faith to be a major aspect of every plot line.
