The human race is all but extinct after a war with Partials--engineered organic beings identical to humans--has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by RM, a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island while the Partials have mysteriously retreated. The threat of the Partials is still imminent, but, worse, no baby has been born immune to RM in more than a decade. Our time is running out.

Kira, a sixteen-year-old medic-in-training, is on the front lines of this battle, seeing RM ravage the community while mandatory pregnancy laws have pushed what's left of humanity to the brink of civil war, and she's not content to stand by and watch. But as she makes a desperate decision to save the last of her race, she will find that the survival of humans and …

I loved [b: I am not a serial killer|7617119|I Am Not A Serial Killer (John Cleaver, #1)|Dan Wells|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1442065592s/7617119.jpg|6154629] and so I was really hoping I'd fall in love with this series as well. But it didn't happen. I think what I loved about John Cleaver was his fight against his inner demons. But Kira, the 16 year old medic in this dystopian world didn't get to me like that. She's quite the opposite of John in almost every aspect. Very late in the story this fact makes an important point. Because it turns out she's a Partial herself. And painting her as caring, humane and trying to save lives, is sure making the case for Partials not all being evil..

So this story is set in a near future dystopia in which humanity managed to get almost wiped out. The backstory goes about like this: Humanity is at war. Humans …

The future looks really bleak, and it’s up to one girl; Kira to save it. Mankind is going extinct as a result of the Judgement Day Partials war; an airborne virus is killing all new born babies. The governments solution; every woman over 18 16 must keep getting pregnant (naturally or artificially) in order for further testing to find the solution. 16 year old researcher Kira is determined to find the answer to the virus and save mankind; her quest leads her to turn to the Partials (genetically modified humans and mankinds greatest enemy) in the hopes to find the solution. This leaves Kira in a tricky situation; will she side with the government, the rebellion or the Partials?

This novel is pretty interesting; I like the story and I’m interested to see where it will lead in the future. While this is typically a YA novel as appose to …

Another great book by Dan Wells. It has some parallels with the new Battlestar Galactica in regards to the human-like Partials/Cylons, but takes it in a different direction with a different setting. The ending was satisfying, resolving the focused plotline, while leaving me excited for the sequel to continue and explore the larger scale conflict going on.
