Review of 'When We Believed in Mermaids' on 'Goodreads'

While the story is interesting and made for an easy listen, what I most enjoyed about this book was the face that it was set in Auckland, NZ, so it prompted me to re-live aspects of the vacation we took there.

The end made me cry (not that that means a whole lot, probably – heck, I used to cry during AT&T commercials…), but the whole story was very emotional and moving. I fell for the boy and both girls, and secrets that came out at the very end were tearjerking, emotional, and the reason for their having been kept secret fit in both those categories talk too. And I would love to be able to go hog all the characters and reassure them that life goes on, and everything will get better. But I know full well, the rose-colored glasses get broken, and they do need to be thrown off and that sort of the situation! I won't get any more specific than that, because I don't want to spoil the story; it has a lot of hooks and surprises, good and bad! Not my usual mystery, but I still …
