Cialdini's prior classic Influence is one the greatest business books of all time. I was looking forward to its follow up or really prequel and after a slow start I was not disappointed. After shaking the rust off in the first two chapters Cialdini shares all his golden nuggets on persuasion he's uncovered since Influence. No fools gold here - they are all backed by science. Social science at least.
Cialdini uses dramatic examples to illustrate his findings: Arthur Miller defending a young man coerced into a confession like a Salem witch, the younger Bush manipulating the media in their Iraq war coverage, and why Imperial Japan, aligned with Nazi Germany, offered safe harbor to the international Jewish community.
As a compliance pro - loved his chapter on business ethics, which seems a little inserted in the over design. But no one will ever be fined for yelling Ethics in …
