After a long break from reading I couldn't help but to binge-read the remaining books in this series. As I mentioned in the review for Akte Vaterland, times are getting darker. The Nazis are in power and as the reader knows it's still getting so much worse. Along with the usual view into the lives of normal people in the early years of the Third Reich we also get another set of events in the First World War. I am not sure if it's just Germany's descent into darkness overshadowing everything else, but it feels like Gereon himself is straying further from the light.
