Balise reviewed Pavilion of Women by Pearl S. Buck

The Wu house, just before WWII, is one of the richest and oldest houses of China. On her 40th birthday, Madame Wu announces her decision: she's asking her husband to get a second spouse, younger than she is, and even chooses her. The consequences of this decision are not exactly the ones that she expected, and are the story of this book. And this is possibly one of the best books I've ever read, all categories considered. I learnt after reading it that Pearl Buck did get a Nobel in litterature, so maybe there's some explanation for that book being so good :)
