One thing that annoys me about David Walliams's books is how everybody harps on about him being the new Roald Dahl. His books have been mediocre to good so far, nowhere near the storytelling of Roald Dahl. But...The Ice Monster is the book that has made me join the bandwagon and to say "David Walliams is the new Roald Dahl"
It might be down to the setting, Victorian times, orphans badly treated, top notch villains, crazy old people and a young girl who is the hero. It also has some impossible crazy science stuff in it, reminding me of the glass elevator.
I read this to my daughter who is very good at the sound effects, so that makes the story more fun and we both gave a cheer when Raj's ancestor makes an appearance.
Easily David's best, a real good story that doesn't feel rushed like a few of …
