This was good fun. The characters were likable, the set-up was familiar, and just when I thought the solution too obvious, the plot twisted and it wasn’t the solution after all.
My only complaint is the author’s comment, in her postscript, that there was no formal census in England in the nineteenth century. There was, of course, from 1801 on. But that doesn’t diminish the story itself.
