Review of 'Ever the hunted' on 'Goodreads'

This was a fun read. I met the author at Emerald City Comic Con 2019 at an author event that I got to tag along with a friend to. Ms. Summerhill was genuine and pretty cool, so I picked up this and the 2nd book in the Clash of Kingdoms duology when I saw it at the signed table.

This is a book I would have really enjoyed when I was the target age for YA. This follows a typical hero's arc for Britta. I believe it holds true for how a 17-year-old might feel in these circumstances. Often books give 17-year-olds a 40-year-olds perspective on life and while it may irritate the 40-year-old reader less, it is not really true to character age. I really appreciated that about this book.

I liked it by the end, but most of the book I was seething about the focus on the romance rather than the "adventure" I had been promised. Will tone down my expectations for the next one, but I will not be purchasing it. I received this in a book subscription service...it was my first disappointment.
