Review of 'The Language of Emotions' on 'Goodreads'

5 stars

Books of this type are usually incredibly bullshitty, packed with with toxic spiritually that asks you to discard your negative emotions or transcend the realm of the emotion altogether. McLaren is of a different perspective: she sees all emotions as valid, important and generally misunderstood functions of the soul. Her ideas on Anger and Sadness were very powerful for me, simultaneously intuitive and revolutionary. Some of the chapters were too long and repetitive in my opinion, while others were quite ground breaking (e.g. McLaren is a sexual trauma survivor, and her ideas on healing from trauma are very useful), so all in all I would say this is an excellent book that you can also read continuously and not continuously.
