Solo Leveling, Vol. 1

So, the plot of Solo Leveling sucks. No question there. It's exceedingly mediocre.

What's great about the webtoon is the art. It is bloody incredible. There isn't anything super impressive in this first volume, but the quality is beyond what I expected and the adaptation of the webtoon to a manga format is well done. I'm definitely buying the rest of these as they come out to see the absolutely bonkers spreads that I know show up later.

Solo Leveling... has a plot. I'll give it that. That's about all I'll give it, though, because honestly there's not a lot here to recommend other than nostalgia for the early days of the series.

So, uh, read the manga. It gives a mediocre book a gorgeous coat of paint and provides some life to otherwise ghost-like characters.
