Content warning General observations, Desert of the Heart
So, yeah, there is a lot of apologizing about how maybe it’s bad for a woman to love another woman but they’re doing it anyway. You sort-of get an idea why it’s called »pride« nowadays, thru what is missing here. From a story telling perspective, the first half was nice, but it got bogged down by the filosofizing in the latter half.
One more thing: there are no lesbians₂ in the book, according to the modern use. The three women all at different times were reasonably happy with male partners. So, maybe lesbians₁ by 1960’s parlance, but now they would usually be called bisexual.
