Ordinary office worker Ohashi Rei wakes up in the body of the protagonist of her favorite otome game, Revolution. To her delight, the first person to greet her is also her favorite character, Claire Francois—the main antagonist of the story! Now, Rei is determined to romance Claire instead of the game’s male leads. But how will her villainous ladylove react to this new courtship?!

oh look, yet another dating simulator villainess isekai

I picked this up to read at the same time as @RetroTimeLady@read.gender.systems so we could have a cute virtual date night where we talked about it. I was able to get through it in a single sitting.

The story featured snappy, back and forth dialog, interesting world building, and a surprising twist. Oh, and it was indeed "what they call gay." Of these, the banter between Rae and Claire was probably the shining feature. I am told there is also a manga and an anime adaptation, but I can't imagine dialog flowing as well as it did here in other formats.

We'll probably pick up with volume 2 in a couple weeks, and I'm looking forward to it.

Review of "I'm in Love with the Villainess Vol. 1" on 'Storygraph'

Wanted to read the manga before watching the anime, but watched the first 4 episodes now and... well, I want more of them. Episode 5 comes out in 3 days and because I can't wait, I'll be reading this now! Hehe.

So, volume 1 is covered in episode 1-2 of the anime.
It’s kept very close to the manga, just some small differences here and there.

The art too is same, though I must say, I think I prefer the anime! The colors simply make it more lively, and that’s the vibe of the story. It’s still really well drawn in the manga, though.

Episode 3 was quite emotional, so am pretty excited to continue with volume 2 and see how a particular scene is presented there.

I read this shortly after watching My Next Life as a Villainess so maybe I just stumbled into a weird subgenre I'm into, but this was a great read. Rae is reincarnated into the world of her favourite dating sim, and she proceeds to follow the route denied to her by the game itself: the one where she gets with the antagonist.

And it's great. Their relationship shifts slowly but certainly over time, and we see Claire grow quite a lot due to the influence of her moderately-obsessive admirer. The way the princes keep trying to grow closer to Rae and get continually shut down is hilarious.

Very excited for the next volume. Should be a lot of fun.
