Review of 'Neem een geit' on 'Goodreads'

It must be less than one percent of the books that I pick up to read, that I don't get to the end of; even if it is a struggle, I usually succeed. I did not make it to the end of this book. Claudia de Breij is an amusing comedian with a witty turn of phrase. The book was well-enough written, but not exactly amusing. It consists of a series of essays, each imparting a piece of wisdom supposedly leading to a happier life. There is quite a lot of cliched 'tegelwijsheid', with some rather trite suggestions. Perhaps more off-putting is the frequent eulogizing about right-wing politicians, especially Hans Wiegel (famous for bringing down a previous government in an attempt to prevent legislation making a corrective referendum possible). I'm afraid that on the whole, I found it more irritating than inspiring.
