This book is your standard "Oh I'm a vampire ash now" story, where someone is inducted into the vampire world and are somehow magically special. The Ash are a bunch of dudes that are like vampires but can come out in the sun, but somehow are less powerful than vampires (though that isn't ever actually shown anywhere in the book).
This book is fine if you like trope-y vampire stories. There's everything, the awkward "leaving my family" bit, there's the being saved by a hunky vampire dude bit, there's the being persecuted by the hive bit, the my first drink of blood oh no I don't really want to bit, literally everything.

So my main reason for liking these sort of books is generally a steamy scene or two of hot sex with generic vampire dude, however our protagonist sounds like she's wetting her pants every time the main love interest even glances at her. The sexiest it ever gets is some snogging which the author somehow manages to make sound like the cheesiest sex ever eyeroll. Sucks!
There is also the extreme of the "Gay Black Dude" vampire in this story, who is so cliche, bordering on insulting, that I winced every two seconds he was in the story. He acts as the protagonists Gay best friend in the hive.
Overall, I got to the end of it but I doubt I'll be reading any more. It you like romance with action stories aimed at 14 year olds, this is probably for you, but not my thing.
