The book opens with Tim Miller's own journey away from the Republican Party. It then becomes a "burn the boats" book where Miller leverages his personal relationships with many GOP members to explain why they bent the knee to Trump. The book itself could use some reorganizing and a better introduction to help the reader understand what Miller is going to write about. Overall though, it's a good read.

A typology of trump apologists and enablers

The typology this book offers, demonstrated through stories of those who were in the news and behind the scenes, is interesting and potentially useful in other contexts as well, but I kept waiting for the bit where Miller suggests how we avoid this in the future, or at least explains how come this didn't happen in the past, but it never comes, and the book ends rather abruptly.

So we're left to wonder for ourselves how the lessons learned can be applied.

Review of 'Why We Did It' on 'Goodreads'

In this book, Tim reflects on the escapades of being a Political dirt finder/generator. While it’s helpful to see some of the reflection, it mostly seems to serve as an attempt at an apology than a real reflection. I am not sure I learned anything here, but I’d you’re looking for something to read to justify an “evilness” of the other side then this is your book. As I read, I failed to find real reflections of how this could be undone or anything beyond “we really underestimated the response to fear”
