Yet another truly amazing book by Svetlana Chmakova. The first book of hers that I read was “awkward” and I loved it so much and then “crush” which again was awesome. After a long while, now got a chance to read “Brave”.
The book started off normally but then it progressed into truly outstanding and amazing. It talks about how to stand for yourself. Regardless of where you come from or how old you are, the majority of us have big trouble with confrontation. With so much emphasis around being kind and being loving, often times we fail to stand for ourselves and let things slide while we silently fume. Not able to confront is such a common trait. When I think of it, there are extremely few people (perhaps two or maybe three) that I know of who confronts people in a nice manner. More often when we get to the point of confronting someone we get all worked up since we have waited so long and there is a lot of pent up emotions.
The comic also speaks along how a culture is built slowly “brick by brick”. It is nice and relieving to be part of a culture where we are comfortable owning up our mistakes and confrontation is taken as healthy communication.
So, back to the comic. A very timely read. Nice to see such books being popular. It reminds us to not only be kind but also to stand for ourselves even when it means we are alone and shaking. At least I for one, have a long way to go along these. Owning up my mistakes, confronting and what not…. but then there are tons of books to fall back when I fumble and also thankfully people are kind and forgiving.
Thank you to Svetlana Chmakova and everyone involved in the making of “Berrybrook Middle School” comic series. You are amazing. You make the lives of people better. You change the world for better. We love you ❤
