Volume 3 was the most interesting of the trilogy, and the trilogy has to be the best history of the Civil War. Well worth the time it takes to read (or listen). There is great drama in how Grant pressed Lee. As Lee was fighting great tactical battles as he was backed into Richmond it becomes much clearer how Grant and Sherman were working together on a broader strategic plane. The details of the western battles alone makes this a must read for any student of the civil war.
