I read this series because I saw it recommended a number of times on a request for something similar to the ACOTAR series, which I had obsessively read a couple times in a row over a week and a half. (Ok, I read 1-5 once, then 1 and 2, and 2 again, and then 3 and 5.)
In my humble opinion this series is not even close to the same caliber as ACOTAR. The story is actually pretty good but the writing could not be more juvenile. It seems as if the author got paid by the comma, making it very difficult to focus on the story itself. I have never in my life seen someone write, "Of course, not." Everyone knows it's, "Of course not." But not this author. It makes me want to tear out my eyeballs.

Granted, I'm in my early 40s. When I was in my teens or early 20s I may not have been as disturbed by the grammar and punctuation as I am now. I have never read Twilight but I have read the blog Reasoning With Vampires and this series makes me think of the snippets of Twilight that were shared on that blog. There are even some Twilight-esque tropes that when I was younger I may have found romantic but now in my old age I found irritating, with a minor example being a scene where the love interest is constantly touching the heroine, adjusting her hair, her collar, her this or that, I don't even know. It was annoying.
Anyway, I'm reading the third book because as I said, the story is pretty good. And I'll read the fourth when it comes out in a few months. But I won't be REreading any of them.
Rant over. Time for ACOTAR round 3.
