Erin reviewed New One by Evie Green
Review of 'New One' on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
This was a solid enough read. I found I enjoyed the story beats and the reveals, but not the bulk of the writing. Weird to still give it 3 stars in that case, I suppose, but it was fine.
I found myself truly not knowing where this was going in a way that was fun. At the halfway point I guessed one of the twists, and I worried that I'd be stuck waiting for the book to catch up with me - but not 30 minutes later (audiobook), it did. I feel like the author knew that the reader would pick up on that quick and didn't waste our time pretending like we didn't know.
But most of this book is Tamsyn and Sophie's extremely repetitive inner monologues. They think the same things over and over again and it was maddening to have to keep hearing it. I do like …

It gets wild and crazy at the end in a way that it doesn't for the first 90%. I wish the story had stayed small scale within this family, focusing on their tensions and those reveals. I wanted more with Sophie and Scarlett.
Ed is the worst!!
