Ika Makimaki reviewed Know Your Place by Golriz Ghahraman
Review of 'Know Your Place' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
Golriz writes a candid, honest and direct account of her life and experiences becoming a NZ Member of Parliament.
I loved it because it explicitly identifies the issues of racism, representation and migration. Golriz is idealistic but also quite grounded. She is vocal and unflinching while pointing out the challenges and successes of New Zealand politics and society.
It also contains a very straightforward discussion of online hate, the abuse and bul;lying she is constantly subjected to and the measures she's had to take to survive it. Also the role mainstream politics and communications play in the stoking of this hatred.
It is quite refreshing to read this account of a politician who is guided by her ideals. Proud to have supported her and will continue to do so as long as she stands for the ideals she outlines in her writing.
