Review of 'An inspector calls, J. B. Priestley' on 'Goodreads'

A classic play that had somehow escaped my attention until recently. A quick read, a small ensemble of characters, a plot that is easy to grasp - it sounds like this could be a shallow piece, but fortunately it isn't.

It's an enjoyable read with a bit of (almost) everything - relatable, realistic characters, a mystery to solve (or maybe more than one?), a strong message and social commentary. At times I felt the message was driven home a bit too strongly - that may be different when the play is performed on an actual stage.

Bonus points: My edition has a gorgeous vintage cover, and handwritten annotations by who I presume was an English teacher. A pleasure to read!
