On a dark night in 1775, Lizzie Boylston is awakened by the sound of cannons. From a hill south of Boston, she watches as fires burn in Charlestown, in a battle that she soon discovers has claimed her husband's life. Alone in a new town. Soon, word spreads of Lizzie's extraordinary midwifery and healing skills, and she begins to channel her grief into caring for those who need her.

Review of "The midwife's revolt" on 'Goodreads'

Excellent historical fiction

I wasn’t sure I’d like this book, but I took a chance because I like US history and I have a soft spot for midwives, having used them for all my babies’ entry into the world.

It was well done, and Jodi Daynard did a ton of historical research. But the devil is in the details, and the unmasking of one of the villains came about because our heroine/narrator noticed pale skin where he’d removed his wedding band. Sadly, men didn’t start wearing them until after the Korean War, and definitely not in the 1770s. Oops. . .
