This series started off well enough; the first volume can be read as a pretty good stand-alone. By the final volume, however, the author has become so enamoured of technical detail that it is very hard going indeed if you are not a war-games fan or medieval military buff. It also suffers from serving up one invincible enemy after another, and finally having the hero beat the ultimate villain about five times.
