Review of 'Must I Go' on 'Goodreads'

I loved this book, although I can’t put my finger on exactly why. The prose alone is a joy to read, and the way the author describes situations and characters is evocative and original. The characters’ observations about what makes a happy life, and what makes one a good person, are pithy and revealing. For example, one of my favorites: “What you don’t forget makes you who you are. Poor Roland, he kept his diary like a diligent farmer, never missing a season. But what did he reap, but forgetfulness?”

And also, “You can live a long life, surrounded by people, but you’ll be darn lucky if one or two of them can take you as you are, not as who you are to them.”

I had trouble keeping track of all of the characters and there were other flaws in the plot development, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
