A small-town girl fresh out of an Ivy League college lands a job at a prestigious fashion magazine, but wonders if the glamorous perks are worth working for the editor from hell.
This is one of the few books where I would say to watch the movie and don't bother reading it. The characters in the movie were much stronger, and that even includes Andrea Sachs. It's so awkward that they were able to turn her into a functional character in the movie, when she's an awful person throughout the book. She doesn't even do nice things to be nice; she does them to get back at her boss, even when they're petty and small.
I wish I could give this book 4.5 stars. While I LOOOOOOOOVED it, I think it was partly spoiled by my watching the movie version first, several times, on repeat. I feel like the movie has a happier ending, and was sad that it was apparently an alteration from the book.
