Marsha Woerner reviewed Mythology, Edith Hamilton (Sparknotes)
Review of 'Mythology, Edith Hamilton' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
I wasn't sure whether to give it four or five stars. It's really rich, with stories from the Ilion, the Odyssey, the Aeneid, as well as the authors Sophocles, Euripides, Ovid and others. It was interesting the different representations of the different stories and myths by different authors, and the correlation with the Abrahamic mythology is stark. The majority of the book addresses Greek mythology, but Roman mythology is used, and Norse mythology is at least introduced and given a better introduction, even, then the book by Neil Gaiman that I previously read.
There was a little bit that was more "about" the Greek myths than the myths themselves, but overall it was a very good mix! And I was reminded of the Greek tragedies that I read in college; I need to go back and reread, perhaps a different version from a different author.

I know that mythology is far from reality, but it's great to see the stories and how they can relate to current arguments and problems. I believe that all mythology, current religious' as well as Greek and Roman – and Norse and pagan, carries a lot of metaphorical realities applicable to current life and decision-making!
