Lynn reviewed Generations by Neil Strauss
Review of 'Generations' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
This is one of the most interesting books I have read in years. I've run into the four-generation-cycle theory before in a different context, but this book adds to that an observation that not only do generational personalities tend to recur but particular kinds of events tend to recur as well, when the relevant generation is in place.
I liked it that the authors do not use this theory to put people in boxes: They are careful to point out that 'generational personality' is not meant to describe every individual member of a particular generation but rather the overall attitudes and behaviours that are typical of that generation.
Although it focuses on American history, the authors suggest that similar cycles can be seen in other countries' histories as well, at least in the developed world.
Very interesting.
