So I continued on with the next Discovery book that came out this week. As I put in the first book's review, I still haven't actually seen the show since I would have to get the DVDs, but haven't yet, so I know the barest of bare-bones info about the whole thing - so I'm not sure if the characters and events are true to what is seen, if this is even canon or not. And it was a pretty good take on what the heck actually happened with Kodos the executioner, the Sacrifice on Tarsus IV, how Kodos got away, and the initial fungus in the food supply that started the whole sequence of events - all through the eyes of the first Starfleet officers to get there, and in this case, it was in the younger days of two of the captains from Discovery, Georgiou and Lorca. I liked those two, at least as presented in this book, and how the reacted to the events as they tried to help on the planet. Great lessons on their reactions, dealing with the situations, and all of the different problems on the planet.
But of course, any book that takes place during this time just wasn't going to be complete without a cameo showing a future starfleet captain, teenage Jimmy Kirk. ;)
