I stalled out about halfway through reading this one and it took me a while to pick up the book again. Alex Ross' art is gorgeous and interesting because of its Rockwellian realism but the writing lost me. There is only so much schmaltz I can take, particularly when paired with inhibited plotting. Perhaps this novel is a victim of poor aging. Regardless, it will take a lot for me to pick up anything else by Mark Waid.
