Land of Milk and Honey

This book features an interesting mix of writing about food, sex, and climate catastrophe. A near future where the climate crisis (unsurprisingly) has the ultra-rich seeking out ways to escape and build a new world.

It was uneven, action veering farther than the characters could support, then swinging back and stripping away their complexity, over and over. Great language, very rich, and imaginative.

There are parts of this book that read like a news article, and others make you realize it’s speculative fiction. I haven’t read this author’s other books, but I definitely will.

I liked How Much of These Hills Is Gold by Zhang, so I was looking forward to this one. The premise grabbed me. But the execution not so much. The writing style is poetic and solemn to the point of cringe and silliness to me.
