Review of 'Warlock Holmes: The Hell-Hound of the Baskervilles: Warlock Holmes 2' on 'Goodreads'
I guess I wasn't in the mood for it, because it took me forever to finish it. On the one hand I feel like maybe knowing source material would have been better, I'd see in what clever ways the author has turned the story upside down on itself. On the other hand, I didn't, it felt like some vague themes are all that tie this story to the originals, and if it really is so, that's a shame.
I think my main gripe with the stories is that I didn't like the characters. To me Warlock seemed not charmingly oblivious, but just inconsiderate. And Watson had too many prejudices for my liking. Sure, sign of times, but I mean, if we can have real daemons in the story, surely we can get some open minds...
